Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Emails & Scams

At SME, we are committed to safeguarding the integrity of our events and the security of our exhibitors and attendees. Recently, fraudulent emails have been circulating, falsely claiming to sell attendee lists or provide hotel booking services for Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show (CMTS) 2025 and other SME events.

What SME Does & What We Do Not Do

  • SME does not sell or share attendee lists. Any email offering to sell contact lists is fraudulent.
  • All SME communication comes from the @sme.org email domain. Official hotel booking details, including preferred rates, are only available through our event website, exhibitor newsletters, and SME staff.
  • We actively monitor and report scams to help protect our exhibitors and attendees.

How to Identify Fraudulent Emails

  • Check the sender’s email address – Scammers often use generic domains like Gmail, Yahoo, or slight variations of legitimate company names (e.g.: john@ssme.org)
  • Look for suspicious language – Poor grammar, urgent demands, or deals that seem too good to be true are common red flags.
  • Do not click links or respond – Engaging with these emails can put your information at risk.

What You Should Do

  • Verify with SME – If you receive a suspicious message, contact your SME representative, or check our website (www.cmts.ca) for confirmation.
  • Report scams – Forward fraudulent emails to SME at cmts@sme.org so we can track and report them.
  • Stay vigilant – Always rely on SME’s official website and trusted channels for event information and hotel bookings.

By staying aware and verifying sources, we can work together to prevent fraud from affecting our community. If you have any concerns, reach out – SME is here to support you.
